At the start of the season most sportsbooks had calculated the odds of the Houston Texans winning Super Bowl XLVI at 16:1. Diehard Texans fan Chris Brown feels a little bit more confident than that.

Yes, that is a picture of his tattoo. Just in case you are keeping score, the achievement that is immortalized on his arm hasn’t happened yet. Note the shading behind the roman numerals; that’s not going to be easy to fix. His inspiration? “Danieal Manning, he’s my favorite Texans player,” Chris was quoted as saying by the Houston Chronicle. “He inspired me to get the tattoo. I read where he said, ‘You can’t go to the Super Bowl if you don’t think Super Bowl.’” I’m glad no one explained to Chris that he has no bearing on their title chances, because then I wouldn’t have had anything to write about today. If I were Chris I wouldn’t have let this become a story in the media though. I would have stopped at random bars across Texas on game day, lifted up my sleeve and said, “I’m from the future”, and darted out of there. In all seriousness, we live in an era where most fan bases that haven’t had success in a while (or in this case, ever) are bitter. While the Texans haven’t experienced the misery of Browns fans the last few decades, it’s nice to see the positive attitude.
And why can’t they win it? They have a solid defense, a great running attack, and when he’s healthy maybe the game’s best wide receiver in Andre Johnson (settle down Megatron fans, I said maybe.) If Matt Schaub plays well this is a team that can hang with anyone. So right here, right now, am I going to call them my AFC pick to go to the Super Bowl?

My friend John, a Detroit Lions fan, was a little bit more modest with his tattoo. During the Matt Millen era he had “We won’t draft another wide receiver in the first round” tattooed on his back, and was disappointed every year. That last anecdote may or may not be completely false.
